Bobcat baseballers split a pair of games at tourney

ORANGEFIELD — The Orangefield Bobcats defeated Newton 12-0 on Friday as freshmen Logan Gipson and Gunner Jones combined to throw a shutout.

Bobcats put up six runs in the fourth inning. The offensive firepower by Bobcats was led by Ryan DeutschBrett FregiaKadeon Evans, and Johnny Armstrong, all driving in runs in the inning.

Logan Gipson took the win for Bobcats. He went three innings, allowing zero runs on two hits and striking out six.  Jones threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Bobcats socked two home runs on the day. Fregia had a homer in the fourth inning. Deutsch also put one out in the fourth inning.

Blake Bradley went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead Bobcats in hits.

Even though Bobcats collected seven hits to Tarkington’s six, they still fell 4-3 on Friday

Bobcats got on the board in the second inning when Gunner Jones singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.

Tarkington pulled away for good with four runs in the third inning.

Mason Gonzales took the loss for Bobcats. He allowed five hits and four runs over four innings, striking out six.

The Bobcats tallied seven hits on the day.  Gunner Jones and Kadeon Evans each collected two hits to lead Bobcats.

The Bobcats are now 2-1 on the season and will face Big Sandy Saturday at 10:00 am.
