BRIDGE CITY — The Bridge City Cardinals toppled the the woeful Hamshire-Fannett Longhorns Longhorns 68-16 in District 22-4A action at Cardinal Gym in a blowout game that saw Big Red honor their seniors.

Guard Max Baker lead the Cardinals in points with 13 while Hunter Weigraffe was close behind with 11 points of his own.

The win pushes the Cardinals (10-15, 3-5) closer to a playoff berth. A win on the road at Orangefield Friday would give the Cardinals the fourth-place playoff berth out of 22-4A.

Jamarcus Jones led the Longhorns (1-18, 0-8) with five points on the night, Rayshawn Wheaton and Stone Kiker both had four points.

The closest the game came was when the Cardinals went up 1-0 in the first minute, after that the lead didn’t stop growing. The Longhorns didn’t score more than six points in any given quarter and didn’t show any sign of figuring out how to get past the Cardinas’ defense.

The Cardinals started off the game with a 16-1 run in the first quarter. The only point from the Longhorns came from a free-throw attempt. The Cardinals’ offense was led by Weigraffe with five points in the quarter.

The Cardinals’ offense didn’t stop as they doubled their first quarter lead in the second quarter. Every one took part in the point parade as the highest scorer only has seven points, from Weigraffe, through the first half as the Cardinals led 36-6 at the half after a 20-5 spurt in the second period.

The Cardinals grow their lead again, leading 49-12 after three quarters of play. Weigraffe and Baker lead the team with nine points apiece at that point. The Longhorns leading scorer heading into the final quarter was Wheaton with four points.

The Cardinals go up as much as 50 points by the end of the fourth quarter and put a nice bow on the win at home on Senior night with a final of 68-16.

The Longhorns will play host to Little Cypress-Mauriceville Friday.
