BRIDGE CITY — The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears beat the Bridge City Cardinals 63-45 in Bridge City Tuesday night in District 22-4A action to run their mark to 5-1 to start the second half of district play.

For the Bears, Katon Brown had 17 points and Braden Bridges had 12 to lead the team. Even with those contributions, the Bears (19-11) defense was the star of the show, shutting down the Cardinals (9-15, 2-4) to just four points in one quarter, the second, and being stingy with the ball all night long.

The Cardinals were lead in points by Caleb Honeycutt with 13 while Hunter Weigreffe and Grant Boudreaux had six.

The Bears lead after the first quarter 13-10. The quarter began with the Bears getting off to a hot start. Midway through, the Cardinals’ Grant Boudreaux made two three-pointers back-to-back to get the team going.

The Bears pull their lead to 13 heading into the half with a 27-14 lead on the Cardinals. Brown and Bridges lead the Bears with seven points apiece in the half For the Cardinals, Boudreaux had six points and Noah McFarland had four to lead the way.

The Bears defense is what made the difference in the second quarter, playing in a full-court press and pressuring the Cardinals to make unfavorable passes and shots as the Cardinals only scored four points in the quarter.

The Bears held a 15-point lead in the third quarter as the Cardinals had trouble finding something consistent on offense to score. Brown still led the Bears with 12 points, and Honeycutt led the Cardinals with seven.

The Bears spent the fourth quarter padding their already sizable lead. Brown continued to lead his team in points, finding easy points in the paint.

The Bears will look to continue their winning ways Friday when they host Orangefield while the Cardinals will look to rebound when they visit West Orange-Stark.
