Is it worth hearing?

A gentle tongue is a tree of life, but perverseness in it breaks the spirit. – Proverbs 15:4

Today, like everyday, was full of meetings, plans, errands, mommy duties, nanny duties, and more; it was a typical busy day.

We all know those days, especially now that we are all experiencing the aftermath of Harvey. In one way or another we all have been touched by this storm and the busyness of recovering from it.

Well, today as I went about my busy day, I found myself headed west on Interstate 10; at some point I reached a long stretch on beautiful, tall, luscious trees and I drifted in thought about how they came about. I couldn’t help but marvel at the idea that a gracious Creator had taken the time to place so many beautiful creatures and creations on this canvas called earth, just for us.

I silenced the radio to just bask in that moment, enjoy what I was seeing, escape the busyness, and embrace the love that was embracing me.

It was in that moment that I heard a small voice and this simple question, “What is the first thing that creation did?”

I immediately thought about “Let there be light…” and I responded, “Creation obeyed.”

That is what I’ve always been taught, that all creation obeys the voice of God.

Suddenly I received this tiny voice of feedback stating, “No, the first thing creation did was HEAR.”

I absolutely love profound moments with Him.

So, I took the journey….I listened to this profound but simple explanation of the answer I was given. You see, before anything could respond to the voice of God it had to hear the voice of God.

At that moment I feel God impressed upon my heart to share with you all, “Give your atmosphere something worth hearing.”

We spend so much time discussing what’s wrong, what upsets us, what hurts us, and what disappoints us….how often are we releasing healing words that create life? Our circumstances and atmosphere responds to what it hears; with my tongue I can speak life, joy, peace, and strength; but with the same tongue I can speak death, darkness, grief, and weakness.

So, as we go through the week lets be mindful that the words that we speak can build or break us and others. I challenge you to give your atmosphere something worth hearing, something promising, something powerful. I challenge you to not only do that for your atmosphere, but to do that for your neighbors. Remember, your atmosphere is waiting to hear…give it something worth hearing. Speak Life.
