Filing for General, Special election underway

City of Orange will hold a Special Election at the same time as the General Election this year.

Councilmember At large Place 6 Larry Spears filed for the mayoral seat, opening his seat for election. Due to the timing, the city is eligible to hold both elections concurrently.

The Mayor and Single Member District 1 positions are part of the General election. Spears is the only candidate to file at press time.

Paul Burch filed for At Large Place 6 on Wednesday.

“I am excited to announce that I have filed to serve our community as a member of the Orange City Council! Position No. 6 is an at-large position which is open to every qualifying citizen in the city and everyone may vote,” Burch said on his political campaign Facebook page on Thursday.

Deadline to file for the General Election is 5 p.m. on February 16, 2018.

The time to file for the Special Election began on Jan. 24 and will end at 5 p.m. on March 5, 2018.

At Large Place 6 Special Election will be to finish the remaining two years of the current term.

To file the application in person at City of Orange, 803 West Green Ave., Room 201 in Orange.

Pinehurst

Mayor Pete Runnels has filed for re-election for his current seat as mayor for the city of Pinehurst.

The election is for the purpose of electing one Mayor and two Alderpersons at Large

Filing began Jan. 18 and will run through 5 p.m. Feb. 17, 2018.

To file the application in person at City of Pinehurst, 2497 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Orange.

West Orange

Applications for a position on the upcoming City of West Orange regular election ballot are also underway.

Filing dates are between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Jan. 18 – Feb. 16, 2018.

To file the application in person at City of West Orange City Hall, 2700 Western Ave., in West Orange.
