LITTLE CYPRESS — The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Lady Bears toppled the Hamshire-Fannett Lady Longhorns 48-34 in their District 22-4A opener at The Grove Friday night.

Jacie Miller for the Lady Bears lead the way with 16 points on the night, Chelsea Perry pumped in nine points for the Lady Bears while Brielle Butler chimed in with eight and Zaria Johnson had seven.

The Bears shinned on the defensive side, which was a major key throughout the game. The turnovers and bad shots were created, and opened up the offensive side for the Lady Bears and they took advantage.

LC-M (1-0 in district) outscored the Lady Longhorns 24-13 after intermission after leading 24-21 at the half.

The Lady Bears had a 31-21 lead late into the third quarter and continue to pile it on through the rest of the second half. LCM’s defense was able to create turnovers and held the Lady Horns (0-1 in district) to a scoreless third quarter of play.

The Lady Bears continued their ways on defense late into the final quarter of play, forcing the Lady Horns to take unfavorable shots. The Lady Bears took advantage and continued to hold a double-digit lead through the early portions of the final quarter.

The Lady Bears closed out the game comfortably with their defense and fast-pace offense against the Lady Horns.

LC-M, which made the playoffs last year as the fourth-place unit, will look to make another push up the standings.

The Lady Bears will be back at home Tuesday when they take on the West Orange-Stark Lady Mustangs.
