ORANGEFIELD — The Orangefield Bobcats toppled the Tarkington Longhorns 50-31 in a dominant fashion on both offense and defense on Tuesday night at Bobcat Gym.

The Bobcats were able to control the tempo of the game and took an early advantage. The Bobcats rode that advantage to a win with at least a ten-point lead after the first quarter.

Orangefield jumped on top of Tarkington early and fast. The Bobcats went on a 12-2 run to start the game and finished the first quarter up 16-4. The Bobcats forced turnovers or bad passes each time that the Longhorns went down the court, which helped them gain such an early lead.

The Bobcats continued their dominant ways in the second quarter with Zach Dischler and Alex Catt leading the way on offense. Catt ended the first half with eight points. The Bobcats offense has had seven different players score in the first half and the next half will be more of the same if the Bobcats can keep it up.

After the first half concluded, Orangefield’s Dischler had 15 points including three three –point bombs. Dischler had one more point than the entirety of the Tarkington team as the Bobcats went into the half up 31-16 on the Longhorns.

The Bobcats get through the third only scoring three points, but only give up six points to the Longhorns. The Longhorns found a way to stop the Bobcats, but still had issues scoring at the basket. The Bobcats were up 40-22 heading into the final quarter of play.

Dischler ended the night with 15 points, Alex Catt ended with eight points and Aven Lathrop had 12 to top the scoring stats for the Bobcats. Tarkington’s top scorer was Hunter Toahon with 13 points on the night.

Tyrone Waggoner ripped down 10 rebounds for the Bobcats. Catt finished with eight points, five boards and five assists while Ryan Deutsch swiped three steals.

The Bobcats will return to action Dec. 28-29 at the Cardinal Classic Tournament in Bridge City.
