“Never A Democrat,” She Said To Me Over The Turkey

At the request of our family host, politics were to be off-limits during this past Thanksgiving holiday. That worked for all of about an hour until one guest said to me, “I want to give you money but I don’t want any of it to go to any other Democrat.” “Why?” I asked. She replied. “Well, because they’re Democrats.”
She talked about what a great service Planned Parenthood does for women across the country with well-woman visits, birth control, disease testing, mammograms, and more. Then we all talked about how we must be better about taking care of human trafficking victims and creating legislation and safe houses for these young women and children – social services. And her husband then lamented he could retire if she was eligible for Medicare now, not two years from now. All Democratic values.
Democrat comes the word democracy. Liberal comes from the word liberty. Republican comes from the word republic – a state in which supreme power is held by the people and their elected representatives, and which has an elected president rather than a monarch. All ideals that I believe we, for the most part, agree on and want to work towards.
Corporate America and the wealthiest Americans are using the two-party system to divide and conquer at least half the population. It is time to get over the word play or we ALL stand to lose our country, our Constitution, our freedom.
Let’s work together and protect the democracy that is the United States of America. #countryoverparty
