PRESS RELEASE —

CALCASIEU PARISH — A Moss Bluff woman is dead after being struck by a vehicle early Monday morning while walking along I-10 about two miles east of Lake Charles.

On November 27, 2017, shortly before 2:00 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a report of a pedestrian that was struck along the I-10 Westbound on-ramp where it merges onto I-10 just west of Louisiana Highway 397.  The initial investigation revealed a female, later identified as 29-year-old Samantha Marie Broussard of Moss Bluff, was struck by an unknown vehicle that fled the scene while walking on the shoulder of the on-ramp.  Broussard was pronounced dead at the scene by the Calcasieu Parish Coroner’s Office.

A routine toxicology sample was obtained from Broussard and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.

Troopers want to find the hit-and-run driver and consider it likely Broussard was struck by a car based upon evidence at the crash location.  The vehicle that struck her should have heavy damage to the front passenger side.  Anyone with information about this crash is asked to call Troop D at 337-491-2511.

Troop D has investigated 24 fatal crashes resulting in 33 deaths so far this year.  This is the second pedestrian to die in a crash investigated by Troop D in the last 5 days.
