Road and Bridge to purchase new truck

Orange County Commissioners Court approved the purchase of a new F-250 pickup truck for Road and Bridge, during the Tuesday afternoon meeting.

Orange County Engineer Clark Slocum by the court for the new truck purchased through a local dealer at a savings to the county of approximately $2,800.

Commissioners Jody Crump and John Gothia both applauded the efforts to buy local.

Emergency Management Coordinator Ralph Valenciano received authorization to submit a $1.5 million grant application for disaster mitigation infrastructure to Foundation for Southeast Texas.

Part of the grant application is a request to purchase equipment that would speed the process of filling sandbags as opposed to the labor intensive process of shoveling sand by hand.

Judge Stephen Brint Carlton remarked, “The recovery process is continuing including debris pick up. If you or anyone you know needs debris pickup or assistance with rebuilding, please let us know and we will direct you to available resources.”

Commissioner Barry Burton remarked he is hopeful to have Claiborne Park open to the public on or about December 1.

Commissioners Johnny Trahan, John Gothia, and Jody Crump each thanked military veterans for their service and sacrifice.

Crump added, “Thanks to all organizations for your activities that promote Orange County.”
