With the Primaries scheduled for March 2018, ten Orange County Republicans filed on Monday, including new Republican, Christy Khoury. Khoury is the incumbent for Orange County Treasurer. She has run as a Democrat until this filing.

Filing officially began on Nov. 11, Saturday. Deadline for filing is 6 p.m. Monday, December 11, 2017.

At this time, no one from the Democrat party has filed, according to Orange County Democrat Chair Deborah Mitchell.

Mitchell is expected to file for Commissioner Precinct 2 seat after a new Chair is named.

“I am eager to see as many Republicans as possible file for public office, and I am excited that the Republican Party of Orange County is prepared to offer all of our candidates equal access to our resources free of charge,” Orange County Republican Chair David Covey said. “Running for office is never a decision to be taken lightly. I am grateful for those who have considered the personal and financial cost and are willing to make the necessary sacrifices in order to serve.”

Covey also added, “As expected, County Judge Stephen Brint Carlton refiled along with current commissioner of Pct. 2, Barry Burton. The surprise came as County Treasurer Christy Khoury switched parties to run in our Republican primary. This means we will have a candidate running for all county-wide offices.”
