WEST ORANGE – Pencil in yet another district championship for the two-time defending Class 4A champion West Orange-Stark Mustangs.
The Mustangs dominated the Orangefield Bobcats in every phase of the game Friday night at Hooks Stadium, notching a 54-0 victory to go perfect in District 12-4A Division II play and extending their
state-leading winning streak to 35 games and their district title streak to seven.
WO-S jumped on the playoff-bound Bobcats early, leading 21-0 at the end of the first quarter and 37-0 at intermission.
The Mustangs (8-0, 4-0) outgained the Bobcats (3-4, 2-2) 326-48 in the first half and 434-102 for the game. WO-S has allowed just 174 total yards in the last two games after limiting Liberty 72 in last week’s 32-0 blanking.

“I think we’re maturing as a football team and you have to do that this time of the year,” said Mustang coach Cornel Thompson. “After our bye week, the kids really came out ant got some focus and went and played well at Liberty and against Orangefield tonight. We earned what we got, which is another district championship. We’re entering that third phase of the season now and it’s going to get toughr every step of the way.”

WO-S will now move on to face Brookshire-Royal (1-8) in the bidistrict round of the playoffs Thursday at 7 p.m. at Baytown’s Stallworth Stadium.

The last time WO-S played Brookshire-Royal was in 2010 and the Mustangs fell 24-21 in the area round.

“I remember that one well,” said Thompson. “That was a tough pill to swallow. Two different teams this time around. We’ve just got to get after it in practice and not take any days off. We’ve played eight straight solid quarters of football and we’ve got to continue to match that. I thought our intensity has been great of late.”

The Bobcats will represent 12-4A as the third-place team and will take on 11-4A runnerup Bellville in the bidistrict round. It will be the fifth straight playoff trip for the Bobcats and Coach Josh Smallet.
Mustang back Kavyn Cooper rushed for 81 yards on six carries in the first 24 minutes and scored three touchdowns and fellow back Justin Sibley had 51 yards on seven totes. Sibley wound up with 76 yards on nine carries. Renaldo Rose had 56 yards and a touchdown on six carries.
WO-S quarterback Chaka Watson completed 7-of-7 passes in the half for 128 yards and finished 8-for-8 for 133 yards. Receivers Blake Robinson and Deondre Hawthorne combined for five catches for 92 yards in the first half. Receiver/defensive back Jarron Morris caught a touchdown pass and brought back an interception for another.

The Bobcats could only get 93 yards on 37 tough carries with their usual solid rushing attack.

Dylan Williams led the way with 28 yards on 11 carries while Kadeon Evans had 19 yards on seven carries. Bobcat quarterback Christian Louvier passed for nine yards and ran for 11.
The Mustangs struck quickly on the first series of the night.
On the opening kickoff, Orangefield interfered with a WO-S player called for a fair catch after a short kick and the Mustangs were able to set up at the Bobcat 41.
After runs by Watson and Cooper chewed up 13 yards, Watson found receiver Jarron Morris along the right side and Morris churned his way down the right sideline and into the end zone for a 28-yard score.
Chad Dallas booted the extra-point as WO-S led 7-0 with 10:43 in the first quarter.
On their next possession, the Mustangs put together a seven-play, 51-yard scoring march.
The big play came on third-and-12 from the Bobcat 39 when Watson threw a nice strike to receiver Blake Robinson, who made a nice catch at the Bobcat 3. On the next play, Kavyn Cooper broke up the middle for a three-yard touchdown to put the Mustangs up 14-0 with 5:45 in the first.
WO-S was able to chew up 85 yards in seven plays to hit paydirt again on their next series.
Watson hooked up with receiver Deondre Hawthorne on a 35-yard strike down the right sideline that got to midfield.
Cooper carried three times for 31 yards on the march, including a five-yard touchdown dart off left tackle to make it 21-0 with 0:52 in the first.
The Mustangs outgained the Bobcats 187-7 in the first quarter.
On their first series of the second quarter, WO-S was able to navigate 58 yards in six plays, sparked by backup quarterback Tyrone Wilson.
Wilson hit tight end Kaleb Ramsey on back-to-back passes that ate up 26 yards. Justin Sibley had a big 11-yard run to the Bobcat 8 and Wilson capped it with a nifty eight-yard touchdown keeper, pushing it
to 27-0 with 6:14 in the half.
The Mustangs made it 34-0 with 4:25 left in the half after a quick two-play, 55-yard series. Watson hooked up with Hawthorne on a 16-yard pass and then Cooper was able to break a couple Bobcat tackles over
the left side and scamper 39 yards for a touchdown.
Late in the half, WO-S took over at the Bobcat 38 and drove it to the 12 and on second-and-1 with 1:13 remaining the Mustangs elected to boot a field goal and Dallas came through, drilling a 29-yarder to put
WO-S up 37-0.
After holding the Bobcats to a three-and-out to start the second half, the Mustangs drove from their own 48 as Sibley carried twice for 25 yards, including a 17-yard run to the Bobcat 7.
The Mustangs once again worked on their kicking game as Dallas nailed a 24-yard field goal on first-and-goal from the 7 to put the Mustangs up 40-0 with 8:03 in the third.
Morris showed his skills at defensive back for the Mustangs as he stepped in front of a Louvier pass and stepped down the left sidelines for a 52-yard interception return for a score to make it 47-0 with
5:05 in the third.
The Mustangs went up 54-0 with 8:02 remaining when back Renaldo Rose broke through the middle of the Bobcat defense for a 25-yard touchdown gallop.
