UPDATE: Shooting victim in Port Arthur dies from injuries

A man shot in Port Arthur on Tuesday evening has succumbed to his injuries.

A male, 20, was confronted by a person at Avery Trace Apartments in Port Arthur at approximately 7:35 p.m., according to a Port Arthur Police Department press release,

The victim was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont where he later died as a result of his injuries.

A suspect was arrested Wednesday morning on unrelated charges after a chase and standoff of Fourth Street, though police have not released a name.

According to Det. Mike Hebert, the suspect was located thanks to a tip, and the suspect was confronted at a residence on Fourth Street in Port Arthur.

“That individual exited the back door of the house with a pistol and there was brief standoff,” Hebert said. “He fled on foot.”

Hebert said the man ran four blocks to the 4000 block of Lakeshore and, at the sea wall, tossed the pistol over the wall and into the water.

As of 11 a.m. Wednesday, police were waiting for the fire department’s dive team to arrive and locate the pistol.

Hebert said police have not yet determined a motive for the murder, though more arrest could be forthcoming as police are searching for more persons of interest.

The victim was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont on Tuesday evening where he later died as a result of his injuries.

The case remains under investigation.
