BCJH footballers crush Cleveland

The Bridge Junior high football teams dominated the Cleveland Indians in a pair of games on Tuesday.

The 8th Grade won 60-6. Offensive standouts for the Cardinals included Cale Newsom, Dane Woolwine, Chip Darby, and Shayan Rahim who all had touchdown runs. Ethan Oceguera had a nice 50-yard touchdown pass to Deegan King. The Defense was led by Gavin Garrett who had a 40-yard interception return for a touchdown. Special teams were led by Deegan King and Ethan Oceguera who both returned punts for touchdowns. The 8th grade team improves to 5-0 in district, with two games remaining.

The 7th Grade team traveled to Cleveland for a battle of first place teams. The 7th-grade team picked up a 44-6 win over the Indians. Kyler Garlaska opened up the scoring in the first quarter, returning an interception 50 yards for a touchdown. Jaden Martinez added an 80 yard kickoff return. Offensive leaders included Fernando Rodriguez, Noah Broussard, Mario Martin, and Jaden Martinez who all had touchdown runs. Bobby Drake and Brandon Milstead both had fumble recoveries on defense. The 7th grade team improves to 4-1 in district and remains in a first place tie with Silsbee for the district lead.

Both teams will take on Livingston next Tuesday, Oct. 31. The 8th grade will host the Lions, while the 7th grade will hit the road again.
