OCF gains new members; Sets late Oct./Nov. events

Orange County Friends, OCF, formerly known as Orange Newcomers, welcomed 13 new members recently at the restored Orange Train Depot.  Depot Docent Carol Sims conducted an informative tour for all those attending.  Tours are available by reservation.

New members include Anita Carrico, Kris Payne Cherry, Diane Dotson, Cristyn Francis, Belinda Giarratano, Diane Grooters, Mary K Kimbrough and mom Mrs. Kimbrough, Kathy McCardle, Linda Pittillo, Evelyn Sechler, Diane Sturdivant, and Joan Sechler Tharp.  New members joining in late spring 2017 are Theresa Glidden and Pat McKee.  All new members should contact Membership Chair Carolyn Lemons to provide address, phones, email, birthday and month, names & birthdates of kids for upcoming directory at 409.779.0208 or Chasse_cal@yahoo.com.  Dues are $15 per year to join.

Officers for the coming year consist of Karen Akers, President and Mah Jong Chair; Barbara Meyer and Anne Payne, Co-Vice Presidents and Co-Day Bunco Chairs; Debra McCombs, Secretary, Newsletter Chair, Creative Corner Chair, and Sunshine Chair; Debbie Francis, Treasurer; Carolyn Lemons, Membership Chair and Night Bunco Chair; Joy and Patsy Holland, Bridge Co-Chairs; Lois Ferrell, Wine Tasting Chair and Out-and- About Chair; and Anne Payne, Publicity Chair.

Upcoming OCF events scheduled are OCF Book Club on Halloween, Tues., Oct. 31, at 2 p.m. at Luigi’s Italian Restaurant at the corner of Strickland and MacArthur.  The book reviewer is new member Diane Grooters, discussing A MAN NAMED OVE by Fredrik Backman.  Contact Diane at grootershouse@yahoo.com for more information.

Nov. is a busy month, beginning with Mah Jong at 10 a.m. on Wed., Nov. 1, in the Chasse Ridge subdivision home of Mah Jong Chair Karen Akers on Tanagers, 409.988.9706 or feathers@gt.rr.com.

The next day, Thurs., Nov. 2, is Party Bridge at The Garden District Restaurant off Hwy. 87, just passed LCMHS, but on other side of road.  Lunch is at 11 a.m., and playing starts at 11:30 a.m.  Contact Co-Chairs Joy or Patsy Holland for more information, 409.670.5026 or holland.patjoy@att.net.  Cost is $1 to play.

Buncos are already set for November!  The OCF Night Bunco starts at 6 p.m on Mon., Nov. 13, at the Lindenwood subdivision home of Doris Byrd on Burns Circle, the second street to the right off Lindenwood Drive.  Contact Doris at dorisbyrd42@hotmail.com for more information.  Cost is $10 to play.

The Day Bunco starts at 10 a.m. on Thurs., Nov. 30, at the Lindenwood subdivision home of Anne Payne, 4707 Frost Place, Orange 77630, the first street to the right off Lindenwood Drive.  Contact Anne for further information, if needed, at 409.313.7575 or email to annieoakley1116@gmail.com.  Cost is $5 to play.
