FANNETT — It was smooth sailing in the District 12-4A Division II opener for the two-time defending Class 4A Division II state champion West Orange-Stark Mustangs as they buried the Hamshire-Fannett Longhorns 57-7 at Longhorn Stadium Friday night to extend their state-leading winning steak to a whopping 32 games.

The Mustangs (5-0, 1-0) didn’t take long to score to take a quick lead, scoring on their first drive. Just like last week, Kayven Cooper had three rushes on the drive including a seven-yard scamper into the endz one. After the PAT from Chad Dallas the Mustangs took a 7-0 lead. Mustang quarterback Chaka Watson had a big 12-yard pass to receiver Blake Robinson on the march.

After a blocked field goal, the Mustang offense converted again with Cooper on the ground. If it isn’t broke don’t fix it. Cooper ran in from four yards out as the Mustangs take a 14-0 lead early in the first quarter. Watson had 14 yards on two carries on the drive and a nice 10-yard completion to receiver Mark Thibodeaux. Cooper finished with 61 yards on 10 carries.

Watson would find the passing game and punch one in from ten yards out in the air to receiver Jarron Morris for a touchdown as the Mustangs snared a 21-0 lead now in the second quarter. Watson set up the score with a 11-yard dart.

Renaldo Rose would grab his first touchdown of the night with a 43-yard run for the Mustangs. This drive only took two plays, and went 64 yards. The Mustangs are up a whopping 28-0 lead.

The Mustangs didn’t put on the brakes in any way as they continued to score throughout the night. De’Andre Hawthorne would return a punt from the Longhorns for 60 yards and a touchdown, putting WO-S up 35-0 still in the second quarter.

Watson would find success in the air again, finding tight end Kaleb Ramsey for 8 yards and another touchdown for the Mustangs. The PAT was no good, but the Mustangs are still up 41-0 in the second quarter just before the half. Robinson snared a big 22-yard pass from Watson on the drive.

Tyrece White would broke away for a long 70-yard run for the only Longhorn touchdown of the night as the Mustangs were up 41-7 with just seconds left in the half. White finished with 176 yards while the rest of the Longhorn team had minus 26.

Dallas made it 44-7 with a 34-yard field goal, set up by nice runs by Cooper and Sibley.

Tailback Justin Sibley got into the scoring act in the second half when he barreled his way into the end zone on a 34-yard scoring jaunt. Sibley finished with 59 yards on the ground.

Backup quarterback Tyrone Wilson led a superb last scoring march and he capped it with a one-yard touchdown keeper.

The Mustangs will look to continue their winning ways when they welcome in the Hardin-Jefferson Hawks for Homecoming next week. The Longhorns (2-3, 0-1) will visit Liberty to face the Panthers.
