LC-M CC team has nice final tuneup in Lake Houston event

HUFFMAN — The Little Cypress-Mauriceville cross country teams got in a final warmup meet for the District 22-4A Cross Country Championships by competing in the Lake Houston Invitational this week.
The 22-4A CC Championships will be held Tuesday at Lumberton’s Texas City Park beginning with Class 4A at 8:30 a.m.
Eli Peveto captured first-place over the 5,000-meter varsity boys course, running a 16:21.0. He was followed by teammates in the large field by Rayce Piper (28th, 18:11.0), Jackson Baeza (50th, 18:59.0), Trevor Turner (59th, 19:16.0), Stephan Kusek (98th, 21:27.0), Blake Marshall (99th, 21:37.0), Matthew Erb (102nd, 21:45.0), Cameron Smith (106th, 22:47.0) and Chase Fisher (112th, 24:24).
Orangefield’s Maddison Helm ran in the girls varsity 3,200 meters and finished a solid 23rd in a 111-runner field, running a 13:32.3.
Robyn Cormier paced the LC-M girls, placing 66th with a 15:18.3 followed by teammates Kierra Figgins (74th, 15:37.5), Olivia Keltz (95th, 17:17.5), MacKenzie Holland (97th, 17:39.2) and Alana Craig (98th, 17:52.0).
