On Monday, at 1:16 a.m., officers with the Lake Charles Police Department were called to 2600 Moeling Street, Richmond Suites Hotel, room 138, in Lake Charles, in reference to a homicide, according to information obtained from Lake Charles Police Deputy Chief Mark Kraus..
Officers discovered Joseph Oglesby, 46, deceased. His wife had been beaten and showed severe facial bruising and swelling.
Detectives learned that a witness contacted Jarondrick Jones, of Orange, an acquaintance of the victim who was also staying in a room near the victim, for help.
Jones arrived at the room and observed Mr. Oglesby striking Mrs. Oglesby.
Jones intervened grabbing Mr. Oglesby around the neck.
Mrs. Oglesby fled the room and a struggle ensued between Jones and Mr. Oglesby that continued for at least five minutes. When the struggle ended, Mr. Oglesby was deceased and, according to the Coroner’s preliminary investigation, there were signs of strangulation.
Jones and Oglesby were also involved in two verbal altercations just hours before this incident. Jones was arrested for Negligent Homicide.
Jarondrick Dacole Jones, 26, of Orange, was arrested for negligent homicide and bond was set at $2,000.
Lead investigators in the case were Lake Charles Police Detective Sergeant Colby Thompson and Detective Corporal Lisa Fontenot.
