Lady Cardinals sweep past Lady Bobcats

BRIDGE CITY — In front of a nearly packed house at Cardinal Gym Tuesday night, the Bridge City Lady Cardinals got off to a flying start to begin District 22-4A play as they toppled the Orangefield Lady Bobcats 25-16, 25-19, 25-21 in three games.
The Lady Cardinals trailed the Lady Bobcats early in every game but rallied with big flurries to turn back Orangefield.
Rhoni Richard had a superb outing for the Lady Cardinals as she piled up 10 kills to go along with eight points and a pair of aces.
Reyna Owens notched six kills, eight points and an ace. Triniti Willis put together nine points and four aces, including three in a row in one game. Peyton Trapp had 10 points and a kill and Aleah McClanahan had five points and an ace for Bridge City while Rylee Oceguera had four kills and Mikaela Glover had three.
Bailee Click paced the Lady Bobcats with seven kills and added four points and an ace. Faith Fregia collected four kills, five points and an ace. Mackenzie Davis contributed five points and an ace. Ashtin Broussard and Lily Saucedo each had three points while Kinley Gipson added two kills.
The Lady Bobcats led Game One by as much as 10-4. Bridge City pulled to within 15-13 and closed the game out with a 12-1 spurt.
The Lady Bobcats led Game Two 7-4 but the Lady Cardinals went on a 10-1 run and captured the game.
Orangefield led Game Three 8-4 but the Lady Cardinals hung close and then scored the five of the match’s final six points to claim the win.
The Lady Bobcats will travel to Liberty in non-district action Friday and will resume 22-4A play Tuesday at Hamshire-Fannett while the Lady Cardinals will head to Silsbee Tuesday.
