Bears’ Peveto captures Dayton CC event

DAYTON — Little Cypress-Mauriceville’s Eli Peveto got the 2017 cross country season off with a flurry as he captured first-place at the Dayton Invitational Saturday.

Peveto ran the 5,000-meter course in 17 minutes, 11.6 seconds to nab first-place honors in the varsity purple division.

It was definitely a huge meet as a slew of Orange County runners participated.

Also in the purple division, LC-M’s Jackson Baeza was 12th (18:09.5) followed by teammates Rayce Piper (16th, 18:22.8), Trevor Turner (46th, 19:50.3) and Matthew Erb (69th, 27:11.9).

In the two-mile girls varsity white division Orangefield’s Maddison Helm nabbed first-place with a time of 13:24. She was followed by teammates McClane Downs (19.18) and Cheyenne Durio (25.31).

Bridge City’s Kayla Smith was 27th (15:04.6) followed by teammates Brooklin Sheffield (57th, 16:03.5), Kyler Myers (69th, 16:23.3), Katy Torbett (72nd, 16:28.8) and Destiny Block (73rd, 16:29.4).

Kierra Figgins paced the LC-M girls, placing 77th with a 16:38.7 followed by teammates Alana Craig (85th, 17:08.5), Jayden Wilson (106th, 17:43.9), Olivia Keltz (115th, 18:34.5), Alora James (124th, 19:02.6) and Robyn Cormier (125th. 19:05.2).

In the boys 5,000-meter varsity white division Ruben Valencia paced Bridge City as he finished 38th with a time of 20:21.8 followed by teammates Kyler Young (52nd, 21:00.8), Adrian Draughn (71st, 21:33.2), Caden Shaw (74th, 21:54.2), Alex Miloler (80th, 22:09.8), Nathan Rhodes (120th, 23:42.5), and Alex Williams (144th, 24:43.8).

For Orangefield Ryan Deutsch weas 63rd with a 21:26 followed by teammates Andrew Worthy (73rd, 22:06), Brandon Scogin (114th, 24:01), Jacob Guillot (115th, 24:02), Dakota Williford (118th, 24:10), Dylan Wells (127th, 24:41) and Gavin Scott (146th, 27:01).

LC-M’s Cameron Shaw Smith was 79th with a 22:07.2 followed by teammates Chase Fisher (85th, 22:21.6), and Marshall Blake (110th, 23.24)
