RICHARDSON, Texas – One game into the 2017 season, the East Texas Baptist University football team has earned two American Southwest Conference weekly awards. Senior Ty Parsons and West Orange-Stark freshman Kentavious Miller were given the awards for their play against Southwestern Assemblies of God.

Parsons, who is the defensive player of the week, had a career game posting a career-high 19 tackles as nine were solo. He also forced one fumble. He also posted two tackles for loss for seven yards and one sack. The defense allowed just 19 points with 10 only in the first half.

Gaining the special teams player of the week was Miller. In his first collegiate game he returned a punt for 72 yards in the third quarter (3:30 mark) to make it 56-10. It was the last offensive touchdown of the game for ETBU. He finished the game with another kickoff return for 51 yards, too.

ETBU travels to Georgetown, Texas, to face Southwestern University on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. in their first American Southwest Conference game.
