Blood supply a concern as Harvey approaches
Published 6:55 pm Wednesday, August 23, 2017
Predictions from the National Hurricane Center indicate severe weather and especially flooding throughout the area LifeShare Blood Center serves near the Texas-Louisiana coast. In order to ensure blood is available for hospitals and patients LifeShare serves in the southeastern Texas and south Louisiana area, they are asking eligible donors in all locations to make a blood donation prior to the weather impact.
Currently, LifeShare reports a two-and-a-half day blood supply, which could become critical if donations come to a halt for some areas due to weather issues.
LifeShare’s blood donation center at 4305 Laurel Avenue in Beaumont is scheduled to be open from 8:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. tomorrow, August 24, along with the following blood drives open to the public: First Baptist Church, 200 West Roundbunch, Bridge City, 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.; First United Methodist Church, 539 North Main Street, Liberty, 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.; and Ritter Lumber, 2004 Highway 365, Nederland, 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
LifeShare provides donated blood products to hospitals in the Beaumont, Texas area as well as most of Louisiana and Texarkana, Texas.
