Lady Cats net consolation trophy at own tourney

ORANGEFIELD — The Orangefield Lady Bobcats strolled to the consolation trophy at the first ever Orangefield Lady Bobcat Classic Saturday.

The Lady Bobcats went 5-2 in the tournament and defeated the Hardin-Jefferson Lady Hawks 25-23, 23-25, 16-14 in a thrilling consolation title match.

Against Hadin-Jefferson, Bailee Click had four kills while Kinley Gipson had three. Taylor Decker contributed 10 assists while Mackenzie Davis had six assists and two kills and Faith Fregia added five digs.

Orangefield defeated the West Orange-Stark Lady Mustangs 25-14, 25-19 in the consolation semifinals while H-J defeated Buna 25-21, 25-20 in the other consolation semifinal.

The Lady Mustangs dropped a 25-16, 25-11 decision to Port Arthur Memorial early Saturday morning.

The Lady Bobcats defeated Hull-Daisetta 25-15, 25-20 in the consolation quarterfinals after falling to Dayton 27-25, 25-16 in their first match Saturday morning.

The Dayton Lady Broncos captured the tournament title by downing the Silsbee Lady Tigers 25-21, 25-20.

The Port Arthur Memorial Lady Titans downed the Beaumont Kelly Lady Bulldogs 25-18, 25-21 to capture the third-place trophy.

Dayton defeated Port Arthur Memorial 25-14, 25-20 in one semifinals while Silsbee downed Kelly 25-14, 18-25, 15-9 in the other semifinal.

Last Friday night, the Lady Bobcats took care of the Anahuac Lady Panthers in three games in a regular match at Bobcat Gym.

Davis contributed 13 assists, three kills and a block. Fregia had 12 digs and three aces.

Click powered her way to eight kills and four aces. Gipson had eight kills and three blocks. Decker contributed nine assists and four digs and Jessica Metts had six kills.

Also on Friday, the Bridge City Lady Cardinals edged out the Beaumont Central Lady Jaguars three games to two.
