The Orange Leader

The Donut Palace, located at 5603 16th Street in Orange, received a health score of 76 out of a possible 100 during a recent health code inspection. Demerits included sausage and eggs at unsafe temperatures, foods being stored inside plastic grocery bags inside reach-in cooler, an employee not using gloves at the beginning of the inspection, no test strips until an employee was provided some during the inspection, improper jewelry, headphones being used, cell phone improperly stored/used, and handwashing signs not posted at the hand-washing station.

Score: 86

Demerits included chemicals stored above clean dishes, paper towels needed at the hand washing station and floors and areas around the grill in need of being cleaned of old foods and grease.

  • Gateway Travel Plaza

Score: 91

Demerits included several expired foods items on the shelves, the cappuccino machine, slushi machine, and drink dispensers in need of being cleaned and paper towels need in the employee restroom.

Demerits included several expired foods items on the shelves, the cappuccino machine in need of being cleaned and old deli foods need to be discarded.

Demerits included several expired foods and dented cans on the shelves, new owner in need of applying for permit, gnats found throughout, and soap and towels needed in employees restroom.

Demerits included employee using bare hand contact with ready to eat foods, several chipped broken plates, employee using cell phone on serving line and prep area, and thawing frozen chicken in a pot of water.

Demerits are for lots of spiders found throughout the store, and shelves inside the milk cooler needed to be cleaned of old foods.

Demerits included the need to cover all foods inside reach-in cooler.

  • Tuffy’s Eatery

11261 Hwy. 12, Mauriceville

Score: 95

Demerits included the need to date all products inside coolers and employee drinks, food and cell phones improperly stored.

  • Cool Breeze

2227 Texas Ave., Bridge City

Score: 85

Demerits included no sanitizer found for washing dishes, chemicals stored improperly on top of counter/storage shelves. Also, an employee was eating when inspector entered the store.

  • Ice Castle Concessions

1350 North Main Street, Vidor

Score: 94

Demerits included soap and towels needed at the handwashing station, hair restraints needed, and handwashing signs not posted.
