A driver learned a valuable lesson Friday afternoon about the importance of distracted driving. Around 12 noon, Bridge City police and fire responded to a two-car major accident at Farm to Market Road 1442 and Colonial Estates.

According to information obtained from Bridge City Police, the driver of a Dodge Ram was traveling Southbound on 1442, when he became distracted by something going on inside of his vehicle and sideswiped a Northbound box truck.

The swipe caused the driver of the Dodge Ram to lose control of his vehicle and flip several times landing into a ditch. The driver was trapped in the vehicle and firefighters had to use the jaws of life to extricate him out of the vehicle.

The patient was assessed on scene by Acadian Ambulance personnel and transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont in moderate condition.

The case remains under investigation by Bridge City Police Department.
