Volleyball teams hit the floor Tuesday night for first time

The high school volleyball season got underway Tuesday night for several local teams as they will have a heavy schedule throughout the rest of the month, including tournament play.

The Orangefield Lady Bobcats fell short to the Nederland Lady Bulldogs 25-21, 25-16, 25-14 in the volleyball season opener for both teams Tuesday night.

Devany Crain led the Lady Bobcats with five kills while Makenzie Davis had 12 assists.

Abby Montalvo led the Lady Bulldogs with 22 assists and nine service points while Peyton Smith had 13 digs and six service points.

The Lady Bobcats will visit Jasper Friday.

The Port Neches-Groves Rock-a-Noos toppled the Bridge City Lady Cardinals 25-12, 25-13, 25-13 in the season volleyball opener for both schools Tuesday night at Lady Cardinal Gym.

Reyna Owens and Mikaela Glover led the Lady Cardinals with three kills apiece.

Aleah McClanahan collected nine digs while Rylee Oceguera added seven.

Triniti Willis had five assists for the Lady Cardinals while Rhoni Richard had two aces.

The Lady Cardinals will play host to Beaumont Kelly Friday.

The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Lady Bears fought off the Deweyville Lady Pirates in five grueling games to capture their opener. No stats were provided for the Lady Bears.

The Lady Bears will be in the Huffman Tournament Thursday and Saturday and will host Beaumont Ozen on Friday.

The West Orange-Stark Lady Mustangs will compete in the Woodville Tournament Thursday and Saturday and will visit Port Arthur Memorial Friday.

WO-S played Beaumoint  Ozen Tuesday night but no scores were reported.

The Orangefield Lady Bobcats will host the Lady Bobcat Volleyball Tournament Aug. 17 and Aug. 19 at Orangefield High School.

There will bne two pools.

Pool 1 will consist of Orangefield, Hull-Daisetta, Dayton, Port Arthur Memorial and Beaumont Kelly while Pool B will consist of West Orange-Stark, Buna, Kirbyville, Hardin-Jefferson and Silsbee.

Pool play will be two out of three games to 25 with a cap at 30 and third games go to 15 with cap at 20.

Games Thursday will be Kelly vs. Dayton and Silsbee vs. Kirbyville at 3 p.m.; PA Memorial vs. Hull-Daisetta and Buna vs. Hardin-Jefferson at 4 p.m.; Orangefield vs. Dayton and WO-S vs. Kirbyville at 5 p.m.; Kelly vs. PA Memorial and Silsbee vs. Hardin-Jefferson at 6 p.m.; and Orangefield vs. Hull-Daisetta and WO-S vs. Buna at 7 p.m.

First-place teams in each pool will have a bye in the first round of bracket play Saturday.

Bracket play will crank up at 8 a.m. Saturday. The third-place match and consolation match will both begin at 3:30 p.m. with the championship match slated for 4:45 p.m.
