For close to 29 years, this century plant has been growing in the Dukkie family’s back yard in Little Cypress. Since this plant is reaching the end of it’s lifespan, the Agave americana (century plant) has produced a thirty foot tall branched stalk that is preparing to open its multitude yellow blossoms. Century plant lives for 10 to 25 years (the “century” is an exaggeration) before it uses all its reserves to produce a magnificent flower stalk that can be 15 feet tall, according to Texas A&M University Aggie Horticulture website.
