The Orange Leader

Terrie Salter and Michael Smith will face off again at the polls on Monday. Early voting for the run-off election will start at 8:30 a.m. Monday, June 5. A run off election between Salter and Smith will be held on June 17, 2017.

Early election will be 8:30 a.m. – 4:40 p.m. Monday – Friday June 5 – June 13 with times extended to 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. on Tuesday June 6 and June 13. Early voting will take place at the Orange Public Library located at 220 North 5th Street in Orange.

Recently Salter and Smith spoke at the NAACP meeting during a meet and greet hosted by the organization as an opportunity for voters to hear from the candidates themselves.

Smith said he would like to see a cleaner Orange to entice people to come to the city.

“The city needs to get more involved with seminars to teach people how to build resumes,” Smith said. “The city needs to be more aggressive with the private sector to bring jobs. We are the only city without a recreation center. It would also create jobs with basketball, football and mentors.”

Smith said it was important to allow the people to have a voice.

“I want you to have a voice,” Smith said. “When we stand together, we are stronger.”

Salter also agreed with the need to clean the city.

“I want it looking good in every neighborhood,” Salter said. “A beautiful city has potential to bring jobs and businesses.”

Salter said she wants to see the city thrive and for more businesses to hire locally.

“If we come together as a team of people we can have a great city,” Salter said.

Salter reminded the audience, the important part is to vote.

“Do your research on me, on Mr. Smith,” Salter said. “Know who you are voting for and what they stand for.”
