BRIDGE CITY — Bridge City’s Luc Hollier slapped a game-winning single in the bottom of the ninth inning to propel the Cardinals to a 5-4 District 22-4A victory over the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears at Cardinal Field.
The game was nip-and-tuck throughout until the Cardinals (12-9, 3-4) found the answers against LC-M (11-11, 1-6) pitching in the ninth.
Caleb Dubois, who went 3-for-4, had a single to start the ninth for the Cardinals and was able to get to second on a balk and to third on a wild pitch to set up Hollier’s heroics.
Justyn Romero ended up getting the win on the Bridge City hill in relief.
Truman Franklin gave LC-M an early 1-0 lead in the first inning as he hit into a double play but scored the run from third when the bases were loaded.
The Cardinals snared a 2-1 edge in the second inning.
Kevin Gordon roped a double and Brady Coulter then walked. Taran Burch brought in Gordon on a grounder and Schuyler Thibodaux made it 2-1 with a RBI single to left.
Dubois had a RBI single for the Cardinals in the fourth.
The Cardinals will visit WO-S Tuesday while the Bears will return home to host Orangefield.
