LC-M grad James nabs Athlete of the Week at HBU

Little Cypress-Mauriceville graduate and softball standout Kassie James was named the Female Athlete of the Week at Houston Baptist.

The Lady Huskies third baseman helped HBU go 2-2 last week in Southland Conference play, hitting .364 (4-for-11) with five RBIs. The Orange, Texas, native drove in the winning runs in a 5-3, extra-inning victory at UTSA Tuesday, then had the walk-off RBI single in Friday’s series-opening victory over Southeastern Louisiana. James added a pair of RBIs in Saturday’s series finale.

James is currently hitting .324 for the season with a home run and a team-leading 16 runs batted in.

James,a junior, is having a superb season after a nice run at Angelina Junior College.

She was a NFCA NJCAA All-American n 2014 and 2015 and was a key cog in Angelina winning the NJCAA National Championship in 2014.

She hit .480 as a sophomore with 11 home runs and 80 runs batted in and hit .451 with 11 home runs and 61 RBI as a freshman.

James was a four-year letter winner at LC-M for coach Dena Adkins and was a two-time All-District selection and two-time Offensive MVP.
