OC tracksters fare well in 22-4A field events

SILSBEE — It was quite the day at the field events portion of the District 22-4A Track & Field Championships at Silsbee High School Monday as Orange County schools came out big winners.

Perhaps the biggest winners came from the high jump portion.

On the boys’ side, West Orange-Stark’s Jared Dupree, a silver medalist at State last year, cleared a personal best of six feet, eight inches. On the girls’ side, Orangefield’s Bailee Click went a personal-best 5-4.

The Orangefield boys received first-place finishes from Tyler Jenkins in the pole vault (12-0) and Michael Teeples in the discus (129-7 ½).

The Little Cypress-Mauriceville boys snared first-place finishes by Trey Guillory in the triple jump (44-7) and Brandon Jenkins in the shot put (48-1) while Bridge City’s Hunter Denton claimed the long jump (22-5 ½).

On the girls’ side of the ledger, Orangefield’s Skylar Matson won the shot put (34-9) and teammates Madison Helm took the 3,200 meters (12:52.79) and Brooklyn Goldsmith won the pole vault (10-6).

The running finals will take place Thursday at 6 p.m.at Silsbee High School.
