Orange Police officers are investigating a shooting in the 1500 block of Main Street in Orange.  Officers received a call shortly after 5:45 p.m. Monday in connection with a woman being shot.

When officers arrived, they discovered a female victim had been shot in the upper back.

The victim was later  identified as Megan Smith.

Smith was transported to St Elizabeth Hospital​​ in Beaumont by Acadian Ambulance, where she was pronounced deceased.

Detectives had a male suspect in custody who was questioned by police and released.

In the meantime the case remains under investigation.

West Orange and Pinehurst Police Officers also assisted in the shooting.
