South East Texas Regional Planning Commission’s (SETRPC)Transportation and Environmental Resource Division is holding a follow up workshop at 3 p.m., Wednesday, March 1 at the MCM Elegante Hotel, Founainview Room, located at 2355 Interstate 10 South in Beaumont concerning development of a Regional Hike and Bicycle Plan for Southeast Texas.

“This is through Transportation and in the process, we never had a Hike and Bike plan,” Transportation and Environmental Resources – SETRPC Director Bob Dickinson. “We are working with graduate students from Texas A&M who are studying creating plans for cities.”

While an actual trial may not happen for several years, the meeting is part of the process to develop a plan in the instance a municipality decides to move forward to create such an addition to the area.

“City or counties have limited programs,” Dickinson said. “Now they will have a plan. Right now there is no plan for the region. We saw an opportunity to work with the region.”

The plans could be used to boost tourism and economic development, if implemented.

The meeting is open to the public for those interested in attending.
