Bears turn back Bobcats 57-53 at The Cave

LITTLE CYPRESS — In a game that was nip-and-tuck throughout, the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears were able to hold off the Orangefield Bobcats 57-53 in District 22-4A action at The Bear Cave Tuesday night.

Katon Brown had another great effort for the Bears (16-10, 2-0) as he collected another double-double, recording 18 points and 11 rebounds to go along with five assists.

LC-M’s Braden Bridges finished with 17 points, hitting a pair of three-pointers and went 7-of-7 from the free-throw line.

The Bears outscored the Bobcats (8-11, 0-2) 37-26 in the second half after trailing 27-20 at intermission.

The LC-M win offset a superb effort by Bobcat Payton Lathrop. Lathrop filtered in a game-high 21 points.

Alex Catt had 13 points and four rebounds for the Bobcats. Caleb Kress contributed eight points and nine rebounds while Mason Gonzales added five boards.

The Bears will visit Silsbee Friday. The Tigers are 19-5 overall and 2-0 in district after walloping Hamshire-Fannett 124-62 Tuesday.

The Bobcats will play host to West Orange-Stark Friday.
