Hoop roundup: Bears stroll past Liberty

LITTLE CYPRESS — The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears closed out their non-district with some flair Tuesday night at The Bear Cave as they strummed the Liberty Panthers 75-43.

The Bears jumped on the Panthers early, going on a 17-5 run in the first quarter. They stretched their cushion to 41-12 at intermission with a 24-7 spurt in the second quarter.

Katon Brown had a huge performance for the Bears, posting yet another double-double, which he has accomplished numerous times thus far this season. Brown poured in a game-high 31 points and hauled down 11 rebounds.

Braden Bridges chimed in with 13 points for the Bears (14-10) while Jacolven Provost popped for 10 points.

Darren Drake led Liberty with 10 points.

The Bears will open up District 22-4A play Friday on the road at Bridge City.

 

Huffman boys 66, OF 53

HUFFMAN — The Orangefield Bobcats dropped a 66-53 road decision to the Huffman Falcons Tuesday night in non-district action.

The Falcons outscored the Bobcats 39-29 in the second half to pull away.

Caleb Kress paced the Bobcats, scoring 15 points while grabbing four rebounds.

Payton Lathrop contributed 14 points, four rebounds and three assists while Alex Catt finished with 10 points, four rebounds and three blocked shots.

Orangefield will open up District 22-4A play at home Friday night against the Silsbee Tigers.

 

H-F girls 35, OF 31

ORANGEFIELD — Not being to able to overcome a tough shooting night, the Orangefield Lady Bobcats dropped a 35-31 decision to the Hamshire-Fannett Lady Longhorns in District 22-4A play Tuesday night.

Neither team shot the ball well but H-F was able to hold the Lady Bobcats to just 12 second-half points.

Both teams are now 1-1 in 22-4A play.

Emmi Lummus paced the Lady Bobcats with 13 points, five steals and four rebounds while Jayme Deutsch contributed seven points and six rebounds.

The Lady Bobcats will look to regroup Friday when they visit Silsbee.
