ORANGEFIELD – Outright district champs again.
That’s what the Class 4A-ranked No. 1 West Orange-Stark Mustangs are after they dominated the Orangefield Bobcats 60-0 to capture the District 12-4A Division II crown.
Both Orange County teams will be in the bidistrict round of the Class 4A playoffs next week.

WO-S, defending Class 4A Division II state champions, will take on District 11-4A fourth-place Tarkington while the Bobcats, who will be the fourth-place team in 12-4A, will tangle with 11-4A champion Bellville.

The Mustangs recorded their seventh shutout of the season. They have outscored opponents 521-30 for the season and outpointed their four 12-4A counterparts 222-7.

“All people on the street have been talking about all year is the playoffs and here we are getting ready for the ‘third season’ again,” said Mustang coach Cornel Thompson. “We had to get through these 10 first and the kids did it with flying colors. We had a tough non-district schedule and we went through it without a stumble, which we’re so proud of. We’ve just got to maintain that focus and get after it next week against Tarkington. One stumble now, and you’re done.”

The Mustangs finished with an even 400 yards of total offense.

The WO-S Chain Gang Defense limited the Bobcats to just 55 total yards on 44 carries and held outstanding Orangefield back Christopher McGee to 36 yards on 18 carries. McGee had 909 yards coming in.
WO-S return man Jarron Morris returned a pair of punts for touchdowns to ignite the crowd.

“We did everything well tonight,” said Thompson. “Our offense generated some big plays and defensively, we got after them all night and we got some big plays on special teams. We wanted to bounce back this week because we didn’t play a complete game against Liberty last week. We’re really proud of the kids’ efforts tonight across the board.”
The Mustangs (10-0, 4-0) stormed out to a commanding 33-0 lead at the half as they outgained the Bobcats 273-27 in the half.
Mustang quarterback Jack Dallas completed 7-of-11 passes for four touchdowns and 209 yards in the first half, including two TDs going to receiver KJ Miller, who had two catches for 72 yards in the half.
The Bobcats (5-5, 2-2) managed just 27 yards on 21 carries with their usual high-octane running game.
The Bobcats tried an onside kick to open the game but the Mustangs fell on it at their own 48.
The Mustangs moved 52 yards in nine plays to hit paydirt, thanks to a pair of big passes from Dallas to Jay’Len Matthews.
The first one was a 20-yarder that got to the Bobcat 20. The second one came on fourth-and-4 from the 14 when Dallas hooked up with Mathews again along the right side for an 11-yard gain to the 3.
On the next play, Mandel Turner-King bolted off left tackle for a three-yard touchdown. Chad Dallas booted the extra-point to give WO-S a 7-0 edge with 7:45 left in the first quarter.
The Mustangs struck again on their next series, going 49 yards in three plays. They capped it when Dallas threw a beautiful pass to KJ Miller over the middle of the end zone for a 32-yard score. The point-after kick failed as WO-S led 13-0 with 4:45 in the first.
After holding Orangefield to a three-and-out, the Mustangs took over from their own 33. Three plays later on third-and-12 from the 31 Dallas hit receiver Keion Hancock along the left side and Hancock outsprinted the Bobcat secondary 69 yards down the sideline for the score. The point-after failed but the Mustangs led 19-0 with 1:20 in the first.
Mustang Cory Skinner picked off Bobcat quarterback Caleb Kress at the Mustang 46 and returned it 41 yads to the Bobcat 13 on the first play of the second quarter.
Three plays later Dallas found receiver Rufus Joseph in the left side of the end zone for a three-yard touchdown dart. Paulino Santo nailed the extra-point, putting the Mustangs up 26-0 with 10:39 in the half.
The Mustangs scored on their next series by navigating 90 yards in just four explosive plays.
Dallas hit receiver Blake Robinson along the left side and he went 34 yards to the Mustang 44. Back Kavyn Cooper broke a 16-yard gain to the Bobcat 40 and two plays later Dallas teamed up with Miller again, this time along the right side on a short pass. Miller then zipped passed the Bobcat secondary for a 40-yard touchdown, putting WO-S up 33-0 with 4:27 in the half.
The Bobcats had a bad snap on a punt on the first series of the second half as the Mustangs were able to set up shop at the Orangefield 39 with 6:32 in the third. WO-S back Jeremiah Shaw, who had 51 yards on 11 carries, carried four times for 29 yards on the series and finished it with a 10-yard gallop around the right side to push the lead to 40-0 with 3:40 in the third.
The Mustangs got it done on special teams late in the third when Morris, showing tremendous speed, tore through the Bobcat punting team for a 58-yard touchdown jaunt to put WO-S up 46-0 with 1:13 in the third.
Bobcat quarterback Mason Gonzales fumbled the ball over to the Mustangs at the Orangefield 32 with 0:26 left in the third.
The Mustangs hit paydirt three plays later when Dominique Tezeno bolted around the left end for a 19-yard score, making it 53-0 with 11:10 remaining.
Morris got into the act again when he hauled in a Bobcat punt at the Mustang 35, booked it around the left side and scooted 65 yards for the touchdown, pushing the lead to 60-0 with 5:11 left.
