ORANGEFIELD — The Orangefield Bobcats beat the Hamshire-Fannett Longhorns 27-16 in a tough run-heavy game Friday night in District 12-4A Divison II action.

The Bobcats (4-4, 1-1) utilized a strong performance by their offensive line to take down the Longhorns (1-8, 0-3), who battled hard.

The win puts the Bobcats in excellent position to get one of the four playoff berths out of the five-team 12-4A.

Tailback Wesley Frillou lead the Bobcats in rushing yards with 177 while fullback Christopher McGee was the next highest rusher at 100 yards even.

The Bobcats piled up 358 total yards, all of it via their dominating running game.

Meanwhile, the Bobcat defense rose up, limiting the Longhorns to just 176 total yards, 141 of it on the ground.

The Orangefield defense came up big with an interception and two fumble recoveries to ensure the victory over the Longhorns.

Bobcat kicker Jacob Rainey was perfect with two field goals from 34 yards out and 22 yards out, and four PATs to make sure the Bobcats stayed ahead.

Orangefield took advantage of a botched punt from Hamshire-Fannett to take over at the Longhorn 18. The Bobcats couldn’t put a drive together to find the end zone but Rainey put the ball through the uprights to put the Cats up early 3-0 in the first quarter.

On the very next kickoff Spencer Hallam for the Longhorns ran it back 83 yards for a touchdown, barely being touched the whole run. Tiler Paine hit the PAT to make it 7-3 Hamshire.

After an interception by the Longhorn defense at the H-F 37. The Longhorns march it down the field, but couldn’t finish in the end zone so they settled for a Paine field goal to make it 10-3 Longhorns near the end of the first quarter.

The Bobcats took over on the next drive at their own 32. Frillou found a big whole and took off for 67 yards and a touchdown. After the Rainey PAT the Bobcats tied the game at 10 to end the first quarter.

Orangefield found its groove on a 77-yard, 11-play drive, capping it off with quarterback Caleb Kress two-yard touchdown run. Rainey put up another PAT to make the score 17-10 Orangefield in the final seconds of the first half. Kress finished with 53 yards on 11 carries.

The Bobcats found the end zone on the first drive of the second half with Frillou and McGee running down the field for 70 yards combined which was capped off by Frillou with a 35-yard touchdown run. Rainey hit the PAT to make it 24-10 Bobcats.

Orangefield’s next drive was all about ground-and-pound. Frillou had another good series and Rainey capped it with a 22-yard field goal boot.

Hamshire would fight back with a late fourth quarter drive on the back of running back Tyrese White. White had a 63-yard run to put the Longhorns on the 1, and got his number called again for a one-yard touchdown run. They would fail the two-point conversion making the score 27-16 Orangefield.

White, 12-4A’s second leading rusher, finished with 106 yards on 15 carres.-

Orangefield took the whole first half to get their game truly going, but they found their rhythm early in the third quarter to put the game out of reach of the Longhorns. The Bobcats look for another district win next week against Hardin Jefferson.
