Peveto, Bears roll at District CC Meet

VIDOR — The Little Cypress-Mauriceville boys cross country team, sparked by the first-place effort of Eli Peveto, clamed the district cross country championships at Claiborne Park Tuesday.

Orangefield’s Madison Helm took the girls title.

Peveto covered the 5000-meter course in 17 minutes, 17.64 seconds to outdistance teammate Blake Kresser, who was a solid second with a time of 17:46.22.

The Bears won the team title with 23 points followed by Silsbee (48), Bridge City (72), Hamshire-Fannett (107), West Orange-Stark (125) and Orangefield (138).

LC-M’s Jackson Baeza was fourth with a 18:03.64 followed by teammates Rayce Piper (fifth, 18:07.01), Braden Bridges (11th, 19:14.40), Matthew Erb (37th, 24:23.56) and Stephan Kusek (24:32.39).

Ruben Valencia led Bridge City, finishing sixth with a 18:20.16. He was followed by teammates Kyler Morse (ninth, 18:54.87), Nolan Moore (16th, 20:01.55), Alex Miller (20th, 20:39.41), Drew Walker (21st, 20:53.90), Kollin Smith (25th, 21:42.96), and Alex Williams (29th, 21:57.22).

Dominique Preston paced WO-S, placing 19th with a 20:38.39. He was followed by teammates Tarek Riley (22nd, 21:13.98), Garrett Dixon (26th, 21:50.34), Jordan Johnson (27th, 21:50.89), Zyshonne Miller (31st, 23:00.88), Brettin White (32nd, 23:03.80), Jadon Robinson (33rd, 23:10.48), Jared Dupree (39th, 25:06.49) , Gregory Thompson (41st, 25:30.63) and Jalen Jefferson (42nd, 25:41.36).

Drew Worthy led Orangefield with a 17th place time of 20:08.77. He was followed by teammates Brandon Scoggin (18th, 20:10.41), Jacob Guillot (28th, 21:52.74), Dylan Wells (35th, 23:49.07), and Trenton Potter (43rd, 27:53.60).

Hamshire-Fannett won the girls title with 26 points followed by Bridge City (58), Orangefield (72), LC-M (92) and Sisbee (108).

Lady Bobcat Helm covered the 3200 meter course in 13:08.18 to win top honors. She was followed by teammates Victoria Welch (sixth, 13:52.36), Melayni Wilson (14th, 15:34.07), Mackenzie Davis (22nd, 17:04.47), Cheyenne Durio (29th, 18:19.60) and Mclane Downs (31st, 18:55.75).

Brittany Fonville led Bridge City, finishing fifth with a 13:44.07. She was followed by teammates Catlin Denison (seventh, 14:04.59), Brooklin Sheffield (10th, 14:51.65), Hanna Huff (16th, 15:55.46), Catherine Alvarez (20th, 16:57.30), Britney Williams (30th, 18:23.49) and Alexa Acosta (32nd, 19:29.74).

Kilon Gillis led LC-M, placing 12th with a 15:06.69. She was followed by Kierra Figgins (15th, 15:46.92), Rylee Locke (18th, 16:29.04), Olivia Keltz (23rd, 17:24.55), Alora Jones (24th, 17:28.62) and Meghan McKinley (28th, 18:12.72).
