Special to The Leader

Orange Christian Services (OCS) received a donation of the 1.9-acre tract of land directly behind their building in 2015. The OCS Board approved the land to be used for a donation garden with the fresh produce going to OCS. This garden will give them the opportunity to give fresh vegetables and fruits to their clients, which in the past has been too costly.

A community work day ahs been scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 17, starting at 8 a.m. at the Field of Plenty, 2120 Wickard, directly behind OCS> With weather permitting, the group hopes to have a great work day to meet new volunteers and work together on bed construction, weeding, mulching, cleaning and harvesting purple hull peas for OCS clients.

Volunteers are asked to come wearing closed toe toes, appropriate clothes for getting a little dirty and bring gloves and a hat for shade.

The garden is in need of pine needles to use as mulch between the beds and are asking for bagged contributions to be brought to the garden on Saturday.
