Collision involving Orange police, motorcycle

PRESS RELEASE — At approximately 9:15p.m., the Texas Department of Public Safety received a report of a two vehicle crash at the intersection of Highway 87 and Cordrey Street in Orange.  The crash involved a motorcycle and an Orange Police Department patrol unit.

The preliminary investigation shows that the Orange City police officer was traveling westbound on Cordrey Street.  A 2006 Harley Davidson motorcycle was traveling northbound  in the inside traffic lane on Highway 87.  The driver of the patrol car stopped at the stop sign and proceeded to pull out onto Highway 87 in front of the motorcycle.   The motorcycle struck the patrol car in its driver-side door.

The driver of the motorcycle, 45-year-old James White of Orange, was transported by ambulance to St. Elizabeth hospital.  White sustained head injuries, but the injuries did not appear to be life threatening.  James White was not wearing a helmet.

The Orange police officer did not sustain any injuries.
