Lady Pirates nab YMBL title

BEAUMONT — The Deweyville Lady Pirates became back to back champions of the small school portion of the YMBL tournament this week.  They defeated Burkeville, Anahuac, Woodville, and Hardin on Saturday to capture the 2016 YMBL championship.

All tournament members for the team were Sr Gabby Dupuy, Jr Brooke Smith, and Jr Maddy Berry.  Kennidee Willis was named the tournament MVP.

The LC-M Lady Bears took fifth place in the big school division while WO-S was sixth.

Last Friday the Deweyville Lady Pirates defeated the Cleveland lady Indians Friday night 25-12, 25-13, 25-7. Leading the way for Deweyville was Kennidee Willis with 16 kills in 21 attempts and Brooke Smith with 12 kills in 18 attempts. Grace Nicholson threw in four kills in 6 attempts and Breanna Shipp added 4 kills in 7 attempts. Gabby Dupuy once again anchored the defensive effort with 16 digs and 6 aces. Maddy Berry and Winter Watts combined with 29 assists.
