ORANGEFIELD — For the second straight week, the Orangefield Bobcats will be taking on one of their oldest rivals when they hit the road Friday to take on the Kirbyville Wildcats for the 38th time.

The Bobcats (1-0) will be looking to pick up their second straight win after dismantling the Buna Cougars 45-0 last week, while the Wildcats (0-1) look to bounce back after getting gored by the Newton Eagles 27-0.

The Wildcats lead the all-time series 21-16 and have won five straight, including 24-14 last year. The last Orangefield win came in 2000 when the Bobcats took a 41-37 victory.

The Bobcat rushing attack jumped on Buna early last week and never looked back as plenty of backs saw plenty of time running the ball behind a dominant offensive line performance.

The Bobcats picked up 322 total yards, 318 of it via the ground attack.

Christopher McGee had 73 yards and two touchdowns on nine totes.

Wesley Frillou compiled 65 yards and a TD on seven carries.

Quarterbacks Caleb Kress and Mason Gonzales teamed up for 70 yards and two scores on 15 carries.

Meanwhile, the Bobcat defense was stingy throughout as they held the Cougars to just 111 total yards and forced three turnovers.

The Wildcats had a superb campaign last year, going 10-2 and reaching the area round of the postseason.

However, just three starters returned this year on offense and four on defense.

Running back Ty Dennis is back after rushing for more than 1,100 yards and 26 TDs and 1,000-yard receiver Devin Tyler is back after tallying 10 TDs.

All-District linebacker Austin Reeves is back after notching 101 tackles, 11 for losses, including five sacks.

The Wildcats had problems moving the ball on the road aganst the high-flying Eagles last week.

Quarterback Tadarius Jackson passed for 89 yards while Joseph Fentress had 78 yards receiving.

The Kirbyville defense had problems stopping the Newton running game and Eagles back Darwin Barlow had 187 yards on the ground.

The Bobcats will return home next week to play host to the Woodville Eagles.
