JASPER — The weather almost got the best of the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Battlin’ Bears and the Jasper Bulldogs Friday night at Bulldog Stadium but the two teams got their first game of the season in, despite a two-hour lightning delay as the game did not start until after 9 p.m.

The Bulldogs would score 18 unanswered points to put together a 25-13 victory.

Due to the late start, The Orange Leader will have full statistics online as soon as possible and will be in the Wednesday’s edition of the paper as well.

The Bears jumped out to a 7-0 lead but Jasper answered with a long drive to tie the game up and the game was knotted at 7-7 at the half.

LC-M (0-1) produced another score but missed the extra-point as the Bears went up 13-7.

Jasper (1-0) followed with 18 unanswered second-half points to hold on for the victory, after getting a late LC-M turnover when the Bulldogs led 19-13.

The Bears will look to bounce back next week when they welcome in the West Orange-Stark Mustangs in a battle for The Orange Bowl Trophy.

In other scores, Port Neches-Groves canned Silsbee 54-27, Beaumont West Brook toppled Beaumont Central 33-21 and Deweyville blasted Colmesneil 40-8.
