C.A.T. Team makes cocaine bust on I-10

Sulphur, LA – On July 26th, 2016 at approximately 4:13 A.M., Cpl. Kevin Hoover with the Combined Anti-Drug Task Force (C.A.T.) conducted a traffic stop on a 2014 Nissan passenger car eastbound on Interstate 10 near mile marker 18 (Sulphur, LA) for a traffic violation.

Occupants of the vehicle were identified to be driver, B/M Eric Dewayne Beloney and passenger, B/F Charnell Leshay Cormier, current residents of Lake Charles, LA. While speaking with vehicle occupants, Cpl. Kevin Hoover could detect the odor of Marijuana emitting from inside the vehicle interior.

As a result of the traffic stop a probable cause search of the vehicle was completed, resulting in Cpl. Kevin Hoover locating approximately 9 pounds of compressed powder cocaine, 14 grams crack cocaine, marijuana and a total of $9,683.00 dollars in U.S. Currency.

Through investigation, C.A.T. Detectives obtained and further executed a narcotics search warrant at the address of 3610 Greinwich Blvd (Lake Charles, LA), identified to be a residence utilized by Eric Beloney. C.A.T. Detectives later recovered an additional 385 grams of “MOLLY”, 11 grams crack cocaine, 381 grams high grade marijuana, 102 ecstasy tablets (MDMA), 28 grams powder cocaine, and (1) stolen .40 caliber handgun from the residence. Detectives estimated the street value of the illegal drugs recovered from the traffic stop and narcotics search warrant to be $215,000.00.

Eric Dewayne Beloney and Charnell Leshay Cormier were arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center charged with Possession of CDS II (powder cocaine) over 400 grams, Possession of CDS II (crack cocaine / (2) counts) With Intent to Distribute, Monetary Instrument Abuse, Possession of CDS I (molly) With Intent to Distribute, Possession of CDS I (marijuana) With Intent to Distribute, Possession of CDS IV, Possession of CDS II, Possession of CDS I (ecstasy) With Intent to Distribute, Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Possession of a Firearm in Presence of CDS, Possession of a Firearm by Convicted Felon.

Judge Mike Canaday set the following bonds:

Eric Dewayne Beloney – $651,000.00

Charnell Leshay Cormier – $451,000.00
