Special to The Leader

Freedom is defined as the ability to make choices and to carry them out.

Political freedom gives citizens a voice in government and an opportunity to take part in its decisions. Last October, over 350 area residents gathered at Conn Park to express and reaffirm their views on social issues of our nation. The planning committee for the event was led by Vidorian Margie Bickerton and her group of area concerned citizens.

Freedom Rally 2016 promises to be larger this August 20th. Set at the Expo Center at 11475 FM 1442, the site offers unlimited parking and a large air-conditioned meeting hall.

Bickerton discussed the rally, “It’s not about Baptist, Methodist, Pentecostal or any other religion. Freedom Rally 2016 is a venue for all Christians to stand united and tell our government officials what we want and what we do not want. We elect these legislators and, they work for us, and we pay their salary! They need to hear we do not want transgender rest-rooms, taxpayer money spent for abortions, and the list goes on. What we do want is prayer and the pledge of allegiance back in public schools, as well prayer at school sporting events. We want “One Nation Under God” in our pledge to the American Flag. We want the Ten Commandments placed back in public places and the list goes on.”

“It has been said that if the sheep sleeps, the wolf will eat them up… well, the wolves are eating us up! It’s time to stand together!”

Speakers for this year’s Freedom Rally include Dr. Rick Scarborough,   founder of “Vision America” , Mark Collins as George Washington, and Texas Legislator James White. The rally is free to the public. Those who attend are asked to bring an American flag to wave in the audience to cheer the speakers on.   The event begins at 4 p.m. Added this year will be and ice cream social for all youth attending the rally and a voter registration table.

Committee members working on the rally include Margie Bickerton, chair-man, Johnie Andrus, Levi Smith, Mike Meranda, Milton Westbrook, Kary Martin, Dee Reevs, Katie Covey, Mark Covey, Ruth James, Paul Starkweather, Sharon Starkweather, Danna Hodges, Terry Wright, Lydia Damrel, David Valleau, and Kathy Covey.
