One Vehicle Crash on Interstate 10 in Orange County Leaves One Dead

UPDATE:The Texas Department of Public Safety has confirmed that the driver killed in Saturday’s crash, Martha Maldonado, was the mother of the two children that were taken to St. Elizabeth hospital for observation. The two children, ages 3 and 6, were released from the hospital late Saturday.

PRESS RELEASE — At approximately 3:30 p.m., the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) received a report of a one vehicle crash in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 10 near mile marker 875 in Orange County.
A 2005 Toyota Sienna was traveling eastbound on Interstate 10 when the vehicle experienced a blowout. The driver lost control and smashed into the inside concrete barrier. The driver was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle.
The driver of the Toyota, 41-year-old Martha Maldonado of Sugarland, Texas, was pronounced dead at the scene. The two minor children, ages 3 and 6, were not injured, but were transported by ambulance to St. Elizabeth hospital for observation.
DPS cannot confirm the relationship between the occupants of the vehicle.
All eastbound lanes of Interstate 10 were closed for more than two (2) hours, but have since reopened.
This is an ongoing crash investigation and there are no further details to be released.
