AUSTIN, Texas—Along with swimming holes and fireworks, road trips are a traditional part of Texas summer adventures. During July, the Texas Historical Commission (THC) and Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) will embark on a virtual road trip featuring photos of two of the state’s most iconic landmarks: windmills and water towers.

The public is invited to join the virtual tour by posting their own photos of water towers and windmills to Instagram. From Luling’s signature watermelon water tower to the Victoria Grist Windmill, interesting opportunities abound across the Lone Star State. Search the THC’s historic sites atlas atwww.atlas.thc.state.tx.us to learn about several of the structures with significance in Texas history.

To participate, follow @txwaterdevboard and @txhistcomm on Instagram. Post photos from a public profile with the hashtag #txwindmills and #txwatertowers. Include the location and tag both agencies.

The virtual tour runs July 1–31. Five participants will be randomly selected to receive a gift bag with items from the TWDB and THC. Photos will be shared on both agencies’ social media accounts throughout the campaign period. For complete guidelines and rules, visit www.twdb.texas.gov/newsmedia/promotion.
