The Orange County Christian Writer’s Guild held their monthly meeting on Tuesday, June 14th. Writer’s Guild members Sarah Johnson and Tammee Greer talked about social media and how authors can use the different platforms for marketing purposes and to better reach their readers.

Information was given as to what each of the major social media platforms are. It was said that the three most important to authors are: Facebook, Twitter, and Google+, as well as their own website. Members talked of the layouts of these and other social media platforms, adding also the demographic trends of each, so as to find the best fit for each author.

Johnson also spoke about SEO—or Search Engine Optimization—and how it relates to social media, marketing, and sales. She explained how an author can build their social networking and thus create a web of connections that are then more easily picked up in a search on engines such as Google and Bing.

Greer gave an extensive teaching on author websites and blogging, and how to best utilize this extension of social media. She told of the differences between a free hosted site and a paid hosted site, giving from her own personal experience with her blog.

Greer also talked about the two most important portions of an author’s webpage, the About section, and the Biography section. She told that About is about the website itself, and Biography is about the author.

Tips and Tricks:

This month’s Writing Tip comes from freelance writer and blogger Tammee Greer of InsideTammeesCloset.wordpress.com

“A blog post should be no longer than 1200 words, otherwise you will lose your reader’s attention.”

The Orange County Christian Writer’s Guild meets the second Tuesday of the month from 6-7 p.m. at the Brown Hearing Center, 105 Camellia in Orange (behind the Dairy Queen).

Our next meeting will be July 12, 2016. If you have any questions or want to join this free guild, please contact Publicity Director Sarah Jonson at sarah@sarahjohnsonbooks.com .
