18-Wheeler on Fire on Interstate 10 in Orange County

The State agency that is overseeing this incident is the Texas Animal Commission not the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.

UPDATE:  An International truck tractor semi-trailer towing live chickens was traveling eastbound on Interstate 10 near Highway 62 in Orange County.  The vehicle experienced a tire blowout which sparked a fire.  At the time of the crash, the vehicle was transporting approximately 6,000 chickens.  Due to the fire, approximately 2,000 chickens were destroyed in the incident.

This incident involved only the 18-wheeler and there are no reports of any injuries.

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has been notified of the incident.

Motorists are urged to use caution while traveling in the area.  Expect delays.

At approximately 12:15p.m., the Texas Department of Public Safety received a report of an 18-wheeler on fire in the eastbound traffic lanes of Interstate 10 in Orange County.  The incident is near mile marker 871.

At this time, details are limited and information will be released as is confirmed.
