Special to The Leader

A deadline date of July 15, 2016 has been set as the last date that names will be taken to be engraved on the military walls at the Vidor Lions Veteran’s Park “Fields of Freedom”. The five large granite walls currently in the park include the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard and Merchant Marine branches. In addition the park has a granite wall listing names of soldiers killed in action (KIA). The Army wall is limited on the amount of space left for engraving. Once the current Army wall is full additional applications for the Army wall will not be accepted until which time another granite wall can be erected.

Request for applications are available by contacting the Vidor Lions club through request at info@vidorlions.org or by calling Joanne Ledger at (409)828-1322. Use either contact above if you have any questions. Applications can also be picked up at Goin Postal on Main Street and the Vidor Public Library on East Boliver Street. Applications must be accompanied by proof of honorable discharge (i.e. form DD214). On KIA wall engraving proof required of KIA status. Forward the application along with $100 either in check or money order for engraving to Vidor Lions Club, 111 N. Main St. #130, Vidor, Texas. All funds go toward engraving or maintenance of the Veteran’s Park. Even though the park is in Orange County soldiers listed on the granite walls do not have to be from Vidor or Orange County.
